ST. THOMAS'S CHURCH ORGAN.

The pipe organ just built by Mr. Arthur Hobday for St. Thomas's Church, Newtown, is constructed in accordance with the rules adopted, by the Council of the College of Organists, London. The port : on now finished and in use is but part of the swell organ, the sub-bass (16ft tone) of the pedal organ, and the swell to pedal coupler. The stops in use are the open-diapason (of metal), full, round, and rich in- tone, and a fine specimen of its class ; claribel (wood), a rich Bft flute ; gamba (metal), a very pungent string tone ; suabe flute (wood), fine quality, "and closely resembling the orchestral instrument ; oboe (metal), a beautiful and marked quality of tone, useful either for solo or, chorus; sub-bass or pedal bourdon (wood) ; swell and pedal coupler ; and also crescendo pedal. „ All the > pipes are of firm, full, and round tone, are artistically voiced, and . have ■ been carefully regulated in the church to the greatest advantage. The wood pipes are of thoroughly seasoned : pine, and the metal ones of the best j spotted metal. The front pipes, decorated, are of the best Belgium laminated zinc, and all the details are made to conform to the climatic and other requirements of the colony;. The portion of the case now erected is effective, but only part of the complete design, which is intended to contain, both in chancel and transept, a largo centre bay, terminated with two handsome towers of pipes. The present front, t(\ the chancel, is illuminated in colour's and gold, the pipes^ ornamentally arranged and set within two ornamental buttresses.- - ( When completed the instrument is to consist of great, swell, and choir organa, all ranging from CO to G, 56 notes ; also independent pedal organ, compass CCC to F, 30 notes.
