Another spell of bad Aveather set m yesterday, afternoon, brought along by the iiorlh-Avesb Avind which has been bloAving steadily since Saturday. It rained heavily in the night and this morning, and indications at the time of Avriting were that it was not going to break for the present. The rainfall in Wellington for the 24 hours ending at 9 o'clock this morning is reported by the Museum authorities to have been 1.22, or nearly 1^ inches. The velocity of the Avind for the same period Avas 700 miles, a record Avhich was chiefly put up in the night. The yacht Maritana, oAvned by Messrs. George Mcc and Co., broke away from her moorings off Thorndon-quay during yesterday afternoon, and drifted "in the direction of Te Aro. At some risk the boat Avas intercepted by Messrs. R. E. Harman, J. ShaAv (of the Rona), and Willason (owner of the Ripple), .Avho put off in a dingey, and after some trouble brought the yacht to a safe berth alongside Jervois-quay, where she Avas made snug Avith help from the shore. By their prompt action they probably saA^ed the yacht from being Avrecked on the Te Aro foreshore. The Hutt River oversowed between 6 and 7 o'clock this morning,, crossing the road by Mr. E. J. Riddiford's residence at the Hutt. \ The water began to subside Avhen the tide fell, and the road was clear of it this afternoon." No damage Avas done.
