An enthusiastic meeting was held last night to form a Horticultural Society in Greytown, and was largely attended" by residents from all parts of the district. The Society formed was called The Grevtown and Lower Valley Society. Mr. J. P. Russell was elected Patron and Mr. Buchanan, M.H.E., President. A strong Committee was formed, and it was decided that an autumn show would be held. Forty members were elected in the room. Cakteeton, This Day. Applications for old age pensions were heard at the Magissrate's Court -yesterday before Mr. W, R. Haselden, S.M. Twelve certificates were granted, three applications refused, two adjourned for further enquiry as to age, &c, and two claimants did not appear. The charge against Charles Neilsen of having assaulted a young woman at Dalefield was heard at the Magistrate's Court yesterday. The accused was committed for trial at the next sessions of ■ the Supreme Court, Wellington. Bail was allowed, accused in £25 and two sureties of £25 eaoh. MABTEETON, THIS DAT. The Masterton School Committee has nominated Messrs. -W. C. Buchanan and W. W. McCardle for seats on the Education Board. It is proposed that the next Masterton School excursion be to Pigeon Bush, on or about 10th February. Mr. W. Nicie. has been appointed Secretary to the Masterton Park Trust, vice Mr. W. Sellar, resigned.
