YESTERDAY'S WOOL AND SKIN SALES.
Messrs. Levin and Co. (Limited) report : -f-In sympathy with the improved tone of the London sales, there was a keen demand at our skin sales to-day. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company (Limited) reports : — There was a full attendance of buyers at our ordinary fortnightly sale to-day, when we submitted a catalogue comprising 669 sheepskins and 16 bags of wool. Owing no doubt to the recent favourable advices from London, competition was very brisk, and we think a distinct advance has been recorded in the values paid for all classes of 'Skins. We secured as high as 5d per lb for one line of crossbreds, and anything like well woolled Bkins with well saved pelts sold at up to 4|d. The wool was all oddments, and, of course, did not realise so much as decent-sized parcels. Still, on the whole, it sold well. We quote : — Well woolled skins, with well saved pelts, up to sd ; fair to good, 4£d to 4-£ d; medium, 3id to 4d ; broken and inferior, Id to 3d ; lambs, up to 3id. Wool — Pieces, 3d to Hd; locks, Id to 2£d; dead wool, Ad to sd. Messrs. Murray, Roberts and Co. report : — We offered 1000 sheepskins and 30 bales and bags of wool at to-day's sale. The market throughout showed a better tone, best crossbred sheepskins selling at 4^d per lb, or an advance of id on last quotations. Inferior skins sold irregularly, but on the average also showed some improvement. Bagged wool was well competed for at better prieces than we have seen for some 1 ime past. We quote as follows : —Merino skins, up to sd ; good crossbred skinß, 4Jd 'to 4|d ; medium, 3£rt to 3|d ; hoggets, inferior, 2d to 3d ; pelts, 3d to 8d each ; lamb skins, 2^d to 32d. The Customs duties collected at the Port of Wellington for the week ending to-day amounted to 2a Bd. Beer, .£l9B 18s 6d.
