WELLINGTON v. CANTERBURY.

The Wellington team leaves for Christchurch by the Rotomahana this afternoon, and the matfeh against Canterbury will be played on Saturday; Monday, and Tuesday. A reconstruction has been made in the Wellington team, and the players now are— Hales, C. Hickson, Holdship, Gore, Richardson, Micllane, Robertson, Stevejison, Tucker. Upham, and Wright, General satisfaction will be felt in cricketing circles at the inclusion of C. Hickson. The Canterbury team is stronger than the combination which played against Otago, and the Southerners are very confident of winning. Mr. I. Hyams, Hon. Treasurer of the Wellington Association,^ is going with the team. Williams is unable to obtain leave of absence for the trip. Phillips, the English professional, has asked to be relieved from his duties us coach to the Canterbury Association. He wishes the Southern body to terminate the agreement as from the <51st January, inBtead of the 31st March, as originally agreed upon. The Association has decided to accede to the request. An Australian paper states that Phillips is going Home as assistant manager to Major Wardill with the Australian team.. It is understood that Richardson will definitely go with the New Zealand team to Australia. This will be good news to cricketers in this colony, as Richardson's experience in the other colonies will prove invaluable to his side, quite apart from his merits as a player. There is little doubt that he will be chosen as captain, and a better choice could not be made. Whether Williams will be able to join the team is yet uncertain.
