The committee of the Auckland Amateur Cycling Club has decided to instruct its delegates to the New Zealand Cyclists' Alliance to vote for the removal of the headquarters to Auckland. Holder, of Wanganui, has written that he will be unable through indisposition to compete at the November meeting, Pahiatua, This Day. A slight shock of earthquake was felt here at 23 minutes past 1 o'clock this morning. [There is no record of its having been felt in Wellington.] Invehcargill, This Day. At the criminal sittings of the Supreme Court, before Mr. Justice Pennefather, George Gorton, after a second trial, was Acquitted on the charge of making a false •^declaration to the Registrar to secure a marriage certificate. Gorton gave the age of the girl as 21, whereas she was only 16. Her evidence was that she had misled him for a joke. William Johnstone Rae was sentenced to nine months' imprisonment for horsestealing. Masterton, This Day. At the District Court this morning William Gifford pleaded Guilty to convening a cheque to his own use, and was admitted to probation for 12 months, and also ordered to repay the amount of the cheque (£7) and costs of the prosecution. Gifford got the cheque from a mate to change, but got on a drinking bout and spent the money, and, becoming frightened, ran away.
