The Seagull and the Fisherman.

+ A bird story in the Spectator given on the authority of Mr. G. Nicholson, of Dundee, is interesting : —ln the fishing village of Auchmithie (the Muaselcraig of Scott's ' Antiquary ') seagulls may frequently be seen flying into the houses of the fishermen and partaking of food from their hatids. One of these sea birds was in the habit of staying in a fisherman's house all the year round, except at the breeding season, when it left. About a fortnight ago, while the gull was away, the fisherman removed his home from Auchmithie to Arbroath. The fisherman never expected to see his old friend the gull again. It was, therefore, much to his astonishment that he beheld last Sunday the sea bird come walking into his new residence with stately steps to resume his old familiarities and household ways with his 'boardinghouse keeper. As gulls are known to hay* a keen eight, is it not probable that th. bird may have seen ita old friend ant followed him to his house ?

The object of all the newspaper correspondents during the recent war was to beat the censor, a feat which none of thorn had succeeded in accomplishing. One, more ingenious than the rest, telegraphed to his paper in New York, ' The newspaper fleet sailed this morning.' Two hours later ho wired again, ' Omit second word of my previous message.' Both telegrams weie returned to him, bearing these words in tho censor's blue pencil :— • All flAafca inn). a \i\, A to me.'
