THE PRICE OF MONEY. THE BANK OF ENGLAND RAISES ITS DISCOUNT RATE.
[PEESS ASSOCIATION.] (Received September 23, 9.50 a.m.) London, 22nd September. The Bank of England has raised its rate of discount from 2£ per cent, to 3 per cent. It will be of interest to again trace the fluctuations of the Bank rate for the last twelve months. From May to September of last year it stood at 2 per cent. On the 23rd September it was raised to 2A- per cent., and on the 14th October to 3 per cent., at which it stood till the beginning of April this year, when it advanced to 4 per cent. At the end of May it fell to 3£^er cent., on 2nd June to 3 per cent., and on 30th June to 2\ per cent., at which it has stood till now.
