THE NORTH ISLAND TRUNK RAILWAY.

[BY TELEGBAPH— PEESS ASSOCIATION.] Auckland, 22nd September. The Secretary of the Auckland and Taranaki Railway League has received the following telegram in reply to a request asking the Hon. A. J. Cadman to attend a meeting of the Auckland and Taranaki members :—: — "Until it can be clearly proved that the Central line will provide most settlement, I shall adhere to my present opinion in favour of the Stratford route. Outside this I caunot see how the Central route will improve the present communication between Taranaki aud Auckland."

The following is the text of the circular which the Council of the Wellington Chamber of Commerce is about to send to each member of Parliament — " The Council is of opinion that the construction of the North Island Main Trunk Railway is being unnecessarily delayed. It considers that the approaching lines should be joined by the nearest practicable route, and so render remunerative a large amount of capital now fyiug idle."
