Arrangements have been completed for a Servico of FIRST - CLASS CARGO STEAMERS FROM NEW YORK At regular intervals. Taking cargo for Melbourne, Sydney, Auckland, Wellington, Canterbury, and Otugo at MODERATE RATES OF FREIGHT. The First Steamer will be the S.S Queen Margaret, to be despatched from New York on or about the 25th SEPTEMBER. Cargo by this steamer for main ports will be carried at 10s per ton of 20cwt, 12s Od per ton of 40 cubic feet, with coastal freight and oharges added to by-ports. WELLINGTON CITY COUNCIL. PROPOSAL TO ADOPT PART 5 OF THE WELLINGTON CITY EMPOWERING ACT, 1897. WHEREAS by Section 9 of the above Act it ia provided that Part 5 of that Act shall come into force if and when a proposal to bring the same into force shall be carried at a poll of the citizens, AND WHEREAS tho said Part 5 gives powers to the Council to take or purchase or otherwise acquire lands for widening, diverting, alteriug the course of, and extending streets, private streets, and rights-of-way in the city, together with land to any depth on either or both sides of any such widened, diverted, or altered street, private street, or right-of-way, or of any such extension of street, private street, or right-of-way, and power to extend streets, private streets, and rights-of-way, and to borrow nionoys by Special Loan and sell or lease surplus lands, and to take over private streets and rights-of-way. and provides as to the application of rents and sale moneys, and that the total amount of special rates levied in connection with any such loans shall not at any time exceed 2Jd in the £, and makes provision as to other matters, NOW NOTICE IS HEREBY OIVEN that the Council of the City of Wellington proposes that Part 5 of the Wellington City Empowering Act, 1897, shall come into force.
