SPORTING.
Mr. Charles Wilson, M.H.R., presided over last night's meeting of the Stewards of the Wellington Trotting Club. The principal business before the meeting was consideration of plans drawn up by the Petone Engineer for a track to be laid on the Petone Recreation Ground. The track will be half a mile in circumference, and is estimated to cost £150 to construct, exclusive of fencing, grandstand, and outbuildings. It was resolved that, subject- to the approval of the Petone Council, the work be proceeded with at once, to enable a trotting meeting to be held on the ground iv November. It is anticipated that the track will be one of the best in the colony, and the extra 2£ acres of land which the Council has recently secured will enable the property to be dealt with to the best advantage. Messrs. Wilson, Hamilton, and Connell have been elected as a Finance Committee of the Trotting Club, and a subcommittee has been appointed to arrange for getting everything ready for the preliminary meeting.
