OUR DEFENCE FORCES.
■» Some 20 members of the Wellington Guards competed on Saturday night in the first Morris tube match, 7 shots each, for a fine turkey, weighing 10lb. Private Aamodt won with 25 points. Another will be fired for next Saturday, when competitors attending early on Thursday evening may fire before the fall-in of parade, or on Saturday night. The officers of the Wellington corps have formed themselves into a club, which has for its object the advancement of the volunteer movement. Papers on matters relating to the force will be read and discussed, and a library of books containing information which it is desirable that a volunteer officer should know will be established. The club has secured a room iv the Volunteer Drillshed, and it is intended to furnish it in a comfortable manner. Lieut.-Col. Newall has been elected President, and Major Collins and Captain Duncan are the VioePresidents, Lieut. Harcourt is the Secretary. The Commandant of the Forces was at Grevmouth to-day. He will afterwards go overland to Christchurch and will probably be back in "Wellington next week.
