The strong southerly gale of yesterday necessitated the departure of the Takapuna for Nelson, New Plymouth, and Onehunga being postponed until 11 o'clock this morning. The Qneen of the South, which left hero on Friday for the East Coast, jot as far a« Flat Point, but owing to tho strong easterly galo was compelled to return to port on Saturday night. The JSotomahana, which arrived here from Lyttelton yesterday morning, encountered a heavy gale and thick weather on the passage. The Kawaliri, which left Timaru at 6.45 pm on Friday for Wellington, only arrived this afternoon, having occupied about 07 hours on ' the passage. The Aorore, from Opunake, had not shown up when we went to press, and she is probably in shelter till tho weather moderates. A telegram from Wanganui states that the Tyser steamer Star of Victoria had to put to soa owing to the southerly gale. The Union Co has been advised that the Tarawei'a left Sydney on Satarday for Wellington. She is due here on Wednesday evening, and will sail for Melbourne via South and Hobart on the following day. A new mast is to be fitted in the Kini on her arrival here from Westport. A telegram received by Messrs Johnston and Co states that the Huia has placed five loads of meat aboard the Star of Victoria in Wanganui roadstead. Messrs W. and G. Turnbull and Co have re- , ceived advice that tho lonic left Hobart on Saturday morning at 6.30, and will not therefore put in an appearance here until about Wednesday morning. The barque John o* Gaunt, which has been detained iv port for some time in consequence of the difficulty between tho captain and the crew as to the quantity of provisions supplied, will sail for Duneain with the first favourable wind. A now crew has been shipped at Wellington, at the rate of wages prevailing at this port. The members of the original crew, who, as tho result of the recent Court proceedings, were released from their contract, are securing engagements on other vessels. The Charles Edward will receive an overhaul and cleaning at Nelson this week.
