THE STRANDING OF THE STEAMER WENDOUREE.

«, THE VESSEL A TOTAL WRECK. [press association.] SYDNEY, 20th July. A strong nor'-west wind was blowing as the Huddart-ParkerMeam collier Wendouree left the harbour, and tlie sea was breaking on the dreaded oyster bank on which the vessel struck, close to the wreck of the steamer Colonist. The vessel became a total wreck in a short time. The cause of the disaster is not revealed at present. The Wendouree was insured for £3000. (Received July 21, 9.46 a.m.) Sydney, This Day. The only explanation given of the Wendouree accident is that she attempted to steer too close to the northern side of the channel, and the strong swell drove her over the wreck of the Colonist. Captain Roberts — at one time second and aftervvaids chief officer of the Burrumbeet, under Captain Thorpe, now of the Westralia — was in charge of the wrecked steamer Wendouree. Captain Roberts was ■ well acquainted with the coast, having been in command of the Lindus, but was only transferred to the Wendouree four trips ago.
