WELLINGTON RACING CLUB.

Mr. E. Pearce (President) occupied the chair at the monthly meeting of stewards yesterday afternoon. The Secretary stated that the damage to the fencing at the Hutt Racecourse caused by the recent flood had been repaired, and a new steeplechase course had been laid out. For the new course Messrs. Eglinton's and Ward's paddocks will not be traversed as in the past, the whole distance being completed on the club's own property. As the "trappy" country will now be avoided, it is expected that mishaps will not be so frequent as at previous steeplechase meetings. In all 22 obstacles will have to be negotiated, including a log fence, sod wall, water jump, post and rail, and a couple of brush fences and a few hurdles. The question of altering the date of the first day's races to Wednesday (Arbor Day) was discussed, but it was decided to retain the original date—Thursday, 14lh inst. His Excellency the Governor notified his intention of being present at both days' racing in company with Lady Raufurly and a party from Government House, and it was decided to entertain them at luncheon on the second day, the party being the guests of the President (Mr. Pearce) on the opening day. • The stewards resolved to invite the delegates to the Racing Conference, which will meet in Wellington during race week, to luncheon on the firbt day.
