THE STUART MEMORIAL AT DUNEDIN.
« UNVEILING OF THE STATUE. [BY TELEGEAPH — PRESS ASSOCIATION.] Dunedin, 22nd June. The statue of the late Rev. Dr. Stuart, for many years pastor of Kuox Church, was unveiled to-day. The site selected is at the intersection of High and Rattray streeti, just above the Triangle. The pedestal is over 10ft high, the foundation being of New Zealand granite, and the centre of Waikawa stone. The statue, which shows Dr. Stuart in a sitting position, was designed by Mr. W. Leslie Morison, of Wellington, and, though he had never seen the doctor, and had to work from a photograph, it is generally admitted that he has been surprisingly successful in securing a likeness. The plaster of Paris model was sent to England, and a bronze statue was cast by W. Moore, London. The Hon. W. D. Stewart, on behalf of the committee who raised the public subscriptions, before handing over the statue to the Mayor for the citizens, asked Mrs. R. Glendiuiuy to unveil it. This was done, and after brief addresses calls were made for Mr. Morison, who returned thanks for the appreciation of his work. Three cheers were given in memory of Dr. Stuart and for the artist.
