He does not know of any country in the world in which the Customs revenue, stated on the average ad valorem, amounts to 27 per cent, on goods imported. lie estimates that New South Wales will be required , to contribute 22s 4d per inhabitant, Victoria 3s 2d, South Australia 5s Bd, Tasmania 3s lOd, and Westralia 47s 10d, on the basis of the present revenue. He contends that New South Wales will be called upon to contribute 19s 2d per inhabitant more than the circumstances actually demand.
