The difficulty with the Maoris near Rawene, in the Hokianga County, in reference to the collection of the dog-tax, is still causing the authorities much trouble. The natives refuse point-blank to pay the tax imposed by the Hokianga County Council, whioh we believe amounted to 10s per dog, and in consequence of threats which they they have made to the settlers the Government is taking steps to protect the lives and property of the Europeans of the district.
