f PRESS ASSOCIATION.] London, 30th April. The pvinoipal Eastern banks are allowing 4 per cent, on deposits fixed for a year. The Antwerp wool sales have closed, and prices are unchanged. There were 882 L bales offorod. inoluding 937 Australian, and of these 2i>52 were sold, of which 325 were Australian. (Received May 2, 8.30 a.m.) London, 30th April. The wheat market in Mark-lane is very firm at a further advance of Is per quarter, but there is less excitement. Leather is id dearer. New Zealand basils are dearer. Hides are held for extreme values, little business being done. Mutton — New Zealand crossbred wethers and maiden ewes : Canterbury, 3Jd ; Dunedin and Southland, unchanged ; North Island, 3 5-16 d. Lamb — Prime Canterbury, 4£d; fair average (including 1 Dunedin, Southland, Wellington, and secondary Canterbury), 4d ; River Plate crossbred or merino wethers — Heavy, 3d; light, 3d. Messrs. A. Gr. Tame & Co. report for their weekly horse sale on Saturday as follows :— The yard was filled with horses of all stamps, and there was a large attendance. Buyers were not plentiful. We sold ordinary harness horses, aged, at £8 and J>10; a good medium spring carter was passed at .£l9; hacks, weeds, brought £2 to £3 ; saddles, 255 ; harness, .£4 10s. We also disposed of privately, on account of Win. Tompsitt, of Manukau, his Clydesdale stallion Tommy Dodd, to Mr. W. Edwards, of the Hutt, at £75. Messrs. Abraham & Williams report upon their Palmers ton North sale of Thursday as follows : — Entries of both cattle and sheep were under the average. Fat sheep improved in value, whilst stores were in better demand and sold freely. Lambs, unless very choice, were dull of sale and were the only class of sheep turned out unsold. Store bullocks received more attention. Quotations : — Sheep— Fat ewes, 5s lOd to 7s 5d ; fat and forward wethers, 8s 8d to 9s; 2 -tooth wethers, 6s ; store ewes, 2s lid to 4s 3d ; culls, Is 3d to 2s 7d ; young ewes in lamb, 6s Id ; others, 2s 7d to 2s 9d ; woolly lambs (good), 5s 4d; shorn lambs, 3s 7d; culls, lid. Cattle— Fat bullocks (small), £4, 5s ; fat and forward do., £3 18s ; store bullocks, £2 5s to £2 13s ; fat heifers, £3 10s ; forward cows, £2 sa; weaners, 3s to 9s 6d. Pigs— Weaners, 5s to 6s.
