THE NEW AUSTRALIA SETTLEMENT.
LATEST NEWS FROM PARAGUAY. [PBESS ASSOCIATION.] (Receiyed September 25, 10 a.m.) Sydney, This Day. A letter received from one of the leaders of the New Australia settlement in Paraguay states that out of the five settlements into which the colony, eventually broke up, three are now running on individualistic lines. The other two have again pooled their interests for the purpose of continuing as a co-operative colony. Any new approved colonists arriving will receive a free grant of 105 acres and equally participate in the other concessions granted by the Paraguayan Government. The writer adds that the principle of equal sharing and Democracy, as tested in New Australia, has produced some startling effects. The men who formerly shrieked for an equal franchise here denounce womanhood suffrage and sneer at Democracy as mob rule.
