OBITUARY.

THE RIGHT HON. A. J. MUNDELLA. [PBESS ASSOCIATION.] London, 21st July. The Right Hon. Anthony John.Mundella is dead. [Mr. Mundella was of Italian ancestry, and born in 1825. He received a liberal education, and afterwards entered the staple trade at Nottingham. He was Sheriff of the town in 1852, and seven years later organised the first Courts of Arbitration in trade disputes. He entered Parliament as Radical member for Sheffield in 1868, and sat for that constituency until 1885, when he was returned for the Itrightside Division of Sheffield. He was Vice-President of the Council on Education in Mr. Gladstone's 1880 Government, and President of the Board of Trade in that of 1885. In 1892 he was re-appointed to the latter office, but resigned in 1894. His education and his early apprenticeship to the hosiery trade enabled him to perfdrm in a most efficient way the two Ministerial offices he held, at different times. It is commonly paid that there was never a better Minister of Education. Mr. Mundella was always an enthusiastic friend of the people, and earned for himself a marked place amongst British reformers.
