Sir Robert Herbert, formerly Undersecretary of State for the Colonies, is one of the Government norniuees to the directorate of the British South Africa Company under the new soheine. The Hon. Sir Robert George Wyndham Herbert, X.C.8., D.C.L., LL.D., was at one time a member of the Queensland Government, and later Permaneut Under-Secretary of State for the Colonies-*— a post which he resigned in 1892. He was Agent-General for Tasmania 1893-96. Sir Robert is a scholar, a man of the world, and an able colonial official, and should be able to thoroughly master his new duties.
