The Government has granted the use of the Parliamentary Buildings for the conversazione which is to be given in honour of the new Governor and the Countess of Ranfurly. The annual, report of the directors of ■ the Wellington Building and Investment Company states that the net profit on^he year's business, including £4G5 16s 2d brought forward from last year, amounts t0 '£3397 3s 7d. The scale of annual subscriptions was fixed at 5s where not more than one assistant is employed, lOs 6d where not more than three are employed, and £1 Is where there are more than three emplo3 r ed. The governing body of tho association is to .be an executive of 14 menibers, consisting of a president, two vice-presidents, honorary secretary, and a committee of 10 members. These", with an auditor, are to be elected annually. In order to prevent any particular trade" being too largely represented upon the executive not more than two members from each are to be eligible for election. The executive will meet monthly, and general meetings will be held quarterly. Any member of the Association may be expelled on the vote of a three-fourths majority of the members present at a special meeting called for the purpose. Messrs. A. A. Corfigan (who presided at last night's meeting), G. Winder, J. Flockton, A. Veitch, aud A. Lindsay were appointed to canvass the city for members. The new Association absorbs the old Traders' Association, aud members in arrears in their subscriptions to that body may become members of the nftw association bypaying their old subscriptions. Mr. A. H. Logan has been appointed Secretary. The Board of Nominators met at Masterton yesterday, and decided to nominate the Rev. P. C. Wyndham Earee, assistant curate to the Rev. H. P. Hunt, of All Saints, Palmerston North, to tliß cure of the parish of St., Matthew, Masterton, about to become vacant b3' the resignation of the Rev. A. C. Torke. Mr Eare>, who was ordained in 1891, was formerly curate of St. John's, Brisbane, then curate of Alphamstone, in the diocese of St. Albaus, England. He succeeded the Rev. R. Young iv the assistant curacy of Palmerston in October last. An entertainment was given in the Oddfellows' Hall last night by the Loyal Sister Wallis Lodge,' Manchester Unity. A varied programme of songs, recitations, dialogues, &c, was given, contributed by tho M.U. Glee Party, Sisters Avery, Harmer, Howe, Paget, Jordan, Miss Murray, and Bros. Beharrell, Avery, Kershaw, T. Jj. Mills, Powell, E. Head, and Skinner. Bro. C. "\V. Johnston, P.G.M., occupied the chair, the other District officers being also present. A presentation was made on behalf of the lodge by Sister Henry" N.G., to Sister Bradley, who has been lately married, of a baudsome silver sugarbasin. Mr. R. Parker's fifth chamber concert takes place to-morrow evening, and -will be devoted to the works of Schumann. A very fine programme is provided for. The duet for two pianos, one of the composer's most charming pieces, v ill be pla3 f ed by Mr. Tallis Trimuell and Mr. Parker, while the principal concerted piece will be the magnificent quintet for piano and strings. Mr. Maurice Cohen has come from Palmerston North to play' the splendid viola part which he played at the onl3 r previous performance of this work here somejl2 years ago. Songs will be given b3 r Miss Tolhurst, Mr. Prouse, and Dr. jjyffe, and the quaint "Fairy Tales," for piano, clarinet, aud viola, will complete the interesting programme. > Mr. Edward Reynolds, the well-known Auckland.cyclist, is at present on a business visit to Wellington. -He has been engaged to act as travelling representative in Australia of the Masse3--Harris bic3 r cles. Ho is to return to Auckland at the end of the week, and will for Australia next month. If he 'takes part in any races in Australia he will ride for cash prizes. " A colossal bargain list " is published by Messrs. George and Kersley as an inset to this issue. Tho bargains comprise Mrs. Walker's large stock, which was purchased at a low figure by Messrs. George and Kersley, and is now being offered at prices which speak for themselves. A service at tbe Gospel Hall, Herbertstreet, is advertised for to-morrow night. The principal attraction in Cuba-street just now is Mr._ C. Smith's great clearing 1 sale. Every articlo in the shop has been reduced from 25 to 75 per cent.
