THE WEALTH OF THE CLUTHA RIVER. SIR JULIUS VOGEL'S DREAM BEING FULFILLED. [BY TELEGRAP H-PRESS ASSOCIATION.] Dunedin,- This Day.
It is reported tbat the electric dredge No. 2, at work near Cromwell, which struck rich gold immediately it began work, obtained 600oz of gold for the first week's work. This announcement will forcibly recall to the minds of our readers Sir Julius Vbgel's novel, "Anno Domini 2000," published some years ago. One of the chief incidents of the story was the carrying out of a scheme for the diversion of the Clutha Eiver in order to get at the mineral wealth to be found in its old bed. This week's finds give further evidence than we had already of our ex-Treasurer's insight.
