South Australia in their second inningt of the intercolonial match against Victoria made 206 runs, raising the grand total tc 536, as against Victoria's 584. Lyons scored 110, Darling 65, Jones 34, and Redman 25. Lyons and Darling gave a magnificent display of battingi Victoria thus won the match by 49 runß. An incident in connection with the match has given rise to considerable ill-feeling between the teams and wrangling ia cricket circles. In the South Australians' first innings, when the last man went ia and eight runs were still required to save the follow on, Giffen was urged to instruct tho batsman to knook down his wicket in order to gain the advantage of batting on an Unworn pitch, but he refused, saying he never had aud never would sacrifice a wicket to gain a tactical advantage. The Victorian captain's view of cricketing ethics, however, was less strict, and under his instructions Tmmble bowled three wides, two of wbiob, were allowed to r^ach the fence.
