FIRE ON A ROTORUA TRAIN.
[BY TELEGRAPH— PEES 6 ASSOCIATION.] Auckland, sth January. A somewhat sensational incident occurred in connection with the arrival at liotorua ot the train which left Auckland at' 9.36 yesterday. AVhen leaving Kduiu it was noticed that the waggon immediately preceding the first carriage, and which contained chaff, was on fire. The traiii was slowed off, the waggon uncoupled, and the fire extinguished by rolling off a number of sacks. The passengers in the front car felt the heat some little time before the outbreak was discovered, and broke through the panel of the door as a preliminary to getting into the next carriage. The fire, which was caused by a spark from the engine getting under the tarpaulin covering of the waggon, made a great flare, and caused some excitement. The damage done, however, was but small.
