Higher rates are proposed in regards to woollen goods, tin, and timber, and thus importers from Australia and Canada will be especially hit. President-elect M'Kinley, it is believed, will use the federal patronage of the States as a lever to secure the adoption of the new tariff, and will bribe the Western States by the duties on wool.
