WELLINGTON R.C. EXHIBITION MEETING. The attendance at the Hutt Park on Saturday numbered about 2000 persons, including visitors from all parts of the colony, and the coub^ and its surroundings looked very attractive. The racing, also, was excellent, for whioh the handicapper (Mr. J. 0. Evett) deserves a word of praise. Not a single favourite was successful, and several good dividends were paid out, notably £22 on Flying Shot in the Flying Handicap, £13 Is On HilMone in the Hack Handicap, and £ll'l9s on Whario in the Maiden Hack race. Florrie's brother, Kingsman, upset a hot favourite in Golden Clover for the Welter Handicap, and after his easy victory his owner* was called on to explain the horse's indifferent display in the November Handicap. He stated that the horse was an in-and-out customer, and he had tried to win in both, backing the horse on both occasions. The stewards considered the explanation satisfactory. A surprise was sprung on the public in the last event, the Flying Handicap, for which Daredevil was considered the best of good things. No bookmakers were allowed in the saddling paddock or lawn, and to prevent backers on the lawn from haying any communication with them an iron galvanised fence had been erected by the stewards. The offer of the bookmakers to pay £150 for the privilege of betting at the meeting was not accepted by the club. The totalisator receipts showed on increase of £2694 as compared with the Spring Meeting of last year, £7397 being handled bj' Messrs. J. Ames & Co.'b assistants on Saturday ; but better prize-money was given for Saturday's racing than last year, and more visitors were present. Mr. H. M. Lyon carried out his duties as Secretary with his usual efficiency, aud was

ably assisted by Messrs. Brooke - Taylor and C. A. Deacon. At this meeting the outside public received more consideration at the hands of the stewards, a black-board having been erected on which names of starters, riders, overweights, &c. were posted. The starting was in the hands of Mr. HI Piper, and although several horses were left at the post it was through no fault of the starter, the horses whipping round when the barrier was raised. The further results are as follows: — First Hurdle Handicap, of 80 soys; second to receive 10 soys from stakes. Two miles. Mr. E. Cuneen's b g Kauri Gum, by King Quail —Lavender, aged, 9st 91b (C.
