FRENCH STEAMERS FOR THE ISLAND TRADE.

Information has been received that the French New Hebrides Company has despatched' two steamers from Havre to take up the company's trade between the New Hebrides and New Caledonia. [Last week's Sydney papers stated that one of the new boats, the intention to import which was already known, was to run between the Islands and Sydney in opposition to the British company, and the other boat was intended for inter-island trade. The company has lately extended its plan of operations, and it already has the steamer Ocean Queen under charter.
