At the Supreme Court, Benjamin Bern, for breach of the Bankruptcy Act, was sentenced to six months' imprisonment without ' hard labonr. !

An outbreak of fire took place this morning on the hulk Omega, underneath the ashpit of the donkey-engine boiler It was extinguished by the hulk-keeper (Mr. Scott) before any matorial damage had been done. The fire is supposed to have smouldered sinoe Saturday, when the furnace was last used, and to havo been caueeel by a spark getting through to the woodwork from the muob worn fireplace. Richard Seddon, aged 15, a son of the Premier, had his leg somewhat badly hurt last week through a horae falling upon him, and is Btill confined to bed. Lieut, and Commander Hancock and several of the officers will be present. Lord Glasgow has given his patronage, bnt informed Messrs. C. F. Worth (President of the Club) and D. Collins (Secretary) this morning that a prior engagement would prevent his being present. His Exoellejjpy, who ia an honorary member, made many enquiries as to the progress and present position of the Club, and oipressedjsatisfaction with the rapid strides made by it of late. The Festival Choral Pociety announoes its final concert for this season, the work being " Aois and Galatea " This delisrhtfnl example of Handel's genius h virtually a pastoral cantati. The libretto is by the poet Gay, with additions by other writer?. The choruses have boen well-rohearsed, and there is ample scope for Madamn Evoleen Carlton, Mr. John Prouse, and Mr. X J. Hill, who have been chosen as the soloists. One of tho principal events of tho year, and one that is looked forward to perhaps more than any other, is the annual distribution of Xmas presents by Mr. C. Smith, the Caßh Draper, Cnba-street. This year the distribution, wo undoratand, will be on a very liberal scale ; £250 worth of ornamental and useful artioles have been specially imported for thia grand gift distribution. On and after to-day until the end of the year, each purchaser of drapery and clothing to the value of 10a and over will reoeive a suitable Xmaa Gift according to the value of the purohase. C.
