BOWLING.

There was a great gathering of bowlers on the Wellington Club's green on Saturday afternoon, when the pennant matohes between the Wellington, Thorndon, and Newtown Clubs were begun. Before the games were started, Mr. F. F. Grady, 1 resident of the Wellington Bowling Clnb, read to the assembled players a letter from Mr. Thomas Baliinger, offering, on behalf of Mrs. Ballinger and himself, a pennant for competition amongst the Wellington bowling clubs, and expressing a hope that the rivalry for possession of it would prove to be the means of increasing the interest in the club matohes, and would be productive of keen contests. Mr. Grady thanked Mr. and Mrs. Ballingor, in the name of the three clubs, for the handsome gift, and echoed the hope that it would lead to frequent and well-contested matches between the various olubs. If it produced half the interest whioh had been taken in the Edwin Feather Badges the wieheß of the donors would be fulfilled. The pennant, made of coloured silks representing the colours of the Wellington, Thorndon, and Newtown olubs, was then hoisted by Mr. Ballinger to the flagstaff above the pavilion, and cheers were given for Mr. and Mrs. Ballinger by the players.
