Captain Prosser, of the s.s. Pakeba, and Captain Milward, of the s.s. Otarama, are aoting as Nautical Assessors in 'the Magisterial enquiry into the collision at the Heads of the steamers Flora and Wakatipn, whioh is being held this afternoon before Mr J. C. Martin, S.M. Mr. Gully appeared for tbe Customs Department ; Mr. Gray for Captain Waller, of the Flora ; and Mr. Skerrett for Captain Ewen, of the Wakatipn. Mr. Gully, in opening the enquiry, said one of the points upon whioh the case would turn would be the interpretation of tho regulations respecting one ship overtaking another, and whether any special duty was cast upon either captain nnder the oircumstances. Other points that might arise wero whether there was any excessive speed of the vessels, and whether there was any def eotive steering.
