IN DEFENCE OF HER HUSBAND.

A terrible tragedy was enacted a short time ago in the Bue Veroingetorix, Paris. A wheelwright named Collet had earlier in the day had a dispute with one of his workmen, Thomet by name. But the pair had apparently settled their differences satisfactorily, adjourning to d cafe during the dinner-hour. Upon their return to the -shop they proceeded with their work, Thomet wielding a heavy hammer. All went well for & few minutes, and then, without a word of warning, the workman raised hie implement and brought it down with terrible force upon his employer's head. Collet, stunned and bleeding, fell near the forge fire, and Thomet caught the injured man and' was about to throw him on the flames, when Mdme. 'Collet, who heard her husband groaning, rushed in, and before Thomet had time to fling her husband on the fire she seized a cobbler's knife, whioh she 'saw near, and drew it aoroßS the workman's neok. Thomet received- a fearful gash, and was oonveved to the hospital in a dying condition. His employer, although seriously injured, is expeoted to recover.
