THE GOLD DISCOVERY AT KARORI.

« At last night's meeting of the City Connoil, the Reserves Committee recommended that if satisfactory arrangements could be made, the persons who Brat applied for permission to mine for gold on the Karori Waterworks Reserve should have an opportunity of making a thorough test of the looality, subjeot to an agreement, to be drawn up by the City Solioitor, for settlement of the details. The Committee stated that it proposed to obtain definite information from the applicants as to what they proposed to do, , and would report further to next meeting of the Counoil. , Mr. Wearne, the expert who visited j the olaims at the request of the Committee, j submitted a report stating that in his - opinion there was gold in fairly payable j quantities, and that the waterworks wonld i not be injured if mining operations were ] curried on, provided due oare was taken, , A proposal by Councillor Tatum that a ( paroel of five tons of the stuff should be ( sent to Auokland for treatment by the oyanide prooess was lost.
