Senator Marnier, editor of L'Kvenement, was Bummoned to appear before the Chamber of Deputies on an indictment charging him with hiving aooepted 100,000 francs in connection with the South of France Railway scandal, but is said to have esoapedfrom his residenoe conoealed in a basket containing dirty linen. Scores of deteotivea were watching the house at the time. [SPSOIAL.] (Received August 30, 11 a.m.) Pabis, 29th August. Leading Btateßmen are Baid to be implicated in bribery, and Magnier was allowed to esoape beoanse thoy feared he would expose them.
