THE ESTATES COMPANY AND THE BANK.

TO TH* XDITOB. Sib— ln the put of the colony in whioh I reside the "Bank of New Zealand Estates Company holds a property of Borne Talne, which for many years past has been unoccupied and unproductive, but has had to contribute its quota in rates and taxes. It might euifc me to purchase the property in question at ita fair market Talne, and accordingly I recently consulted an estate agent on the sub. jeot. This gentleman wrote to the looal representative of the Bank of New Zealand asking whether the property was for sale, and,- if bo, the price required. 'The -reply was, "If you will kindly- make' an offer iv writing I shall hare mnoh pleasure in forwarding it .to my head office for oomideration." This "' mode of meeting a possible onstomer is not conducive to business! and the Bank's reply to the agent does- not tally with the words of the Estates Company's' petition for a Lottery Bill, vix., that all ordinary means hare failed to effect a disposal of the properties. How not to do it seems to be the policy not only in the instanoe related, but h otter parts of the oolimy. See the Huia correspondent's notes in to-day a Auckland Weekly News. . I am, Ac., 24th Angnst, 1895,.
