. The following is the report to be presented at the second annual meeting of the New f e Zealand Farmers' Dairy Union in Thomas' .' Hall to-morrow :—" Your directors regret '. Ir that in handing you the second annual report they are unable to attach the usual . balance-sheet. The preparation of the l( j accounts of the company has taken much id longer than was anticipated, and at the last at minute it has been found impossible to com- ~*! plete the work and have it audited in time "j for the meeting of shareholders. As the r* directors ore anxious to meet members and ~~ f place before them proposals for the better °' working of the Union, it is deemed advisable °| to adhere to the original date fixed for the °" annual meeting/ and, after disonsßing other °J business, a postponement oan be made till *> the balance-sheet is ready. Your directors . also regret that a loss was made last year Jr* on the London shipments, which foot is due n ? very largely to the exceptional collapse of the Home butter market. The low price was ~~ dne to oauses not likely to ooour again for 6 some time, bo yonr directors hope that the coming season will enable them to make * up any deficiency there may be on the °~ past year. In order to seonre a profit during ■"" the coming season, your direotors have °l effeated several economies ; and proposed ": ohanges will also be reported to you at the n " annual meeting whioh will still further reduce expenses and commissions, Messrs J. J Nathan <fe Co. having, in response to the suggestion of the Board, made STveral ooncessions to the Union. Your direotors do°n Bire to take this opportunity of stating ■ c ' that the Union has been well served by the agents, Messrs. J. Nathan A Co., during the * post year, and that the reports oiroulated to the contrary are as untrue as they are unfair. Mr. James Yonng has been appointed "" Faotory Manager of the Union, and as he "' brings exoellent testimonials from Aus- _ a tralia, your directors have every reason to ?" believe that the engagement will seoure tt efficient and economio management of I*" the creameries and factories. Mr. Young °y is now arranging for meetings of the , suppliers in eaoh .district, and will explain °» to them the steps to be taken for the future Ia working of the creameries. Your direotors 86 will also go fully into all matters concerning the Union at the annual meeting, and for the ra convenience of those unable to attend at n- Wellington, meetings will bo held at Palmotston and in tho Wairarapa if deßircd." im "***•
