Lawn Tennis Association.

♦ A meeting of tennis players interested in the formation of a Lawn Tennis Association for the Provincial District of Wellington was held on Saturday night in the Occidental Hotel. About 20 were present, and Mr. W. E. Pearson was voted to the ohair. The Chairman explained that at the meeting of the New Zealand Association held in Christchuroh last year it was resolved, if possible, to hold the Championship Meeting this year in Wellington, and the present meeting had been called to see if this could be done. It was neoessary, in order to arrange for the Championship Meeting, that an Association should be formed in Wellington. It was proposed that steps should be taken at this preliminary meeting to form the Association, which could then decide on the question of the holding of the Championship Meeting. On the motion of Mr. H. M. Gore, seconded by Mr. H. Beid, it was deoided to form an Association for the Provincial Distriot of Wellington. Mr. Arthur Young was eleoted interim Hon. Sec to the Association, and a provisional committee was eleoted consisting of Messrs. H. Gore. H. Parker, H. Beid, W. E. Pearson, and M. Kebbell. Mr. S. Hurst Seagar, Honorary Secretary to the New Zealand Association, explained the working of the last New Zealand tournament held in Christohuroh in 1891. He also gave an estimate of the probable cost of the meeting in Wellington, the probable expenditure being £55 and the receipts .£57. He advocated that the forthcoming tour shonld oonsist only of ohampionship events, leaving the handicap matches to be played at a later meeting of the District Association. It was proposed by Mr. H. M. Gore and seoonded by Mr. Kennedy, to write to the Secretary of the Thorndon Club, asking for permission to use its ground for the next Championship Meeting. Mr. A. H. Adams spoke in favour of handicaps in conjunction with the championship, and moved that the Wellington College authorities be written to, as well as the lborndon Club, to ask on what terms theii ground could be obtained. After discussion, this amendment was embodied in the original motion, wbioh was then carried. It was resolved that the provisional committee meet within three weeks, and thai the country olubs be written to asking them to embody themselves in the Association. A hearty vote of thanks to Mr. 8. Hari Seager for his attendance and assistance wae proposed by Mr. H. M. Gore, and carried, A hearty vote of thanks to the Chairman oonclnded the proceedings.
