♦ pPaIBS ASSOCIATION | (Received August 24, 11.10 a.m.) Melbourne, This Dat. The Crown Law Officers are experiencing great difficulty in preparing the caseagainat the men charged with setting fire to the slip Hilaria. It is bolieved that the prosecution will fail, owing to lack of evidence. Some sensational statements are alleged to have been made in connection with the Warrnambool incendiaries. Campbell, one of tho men sentenced, is reported to have stated that he had planned the destruction of tho Coffee Palaco, tho Fire Brigado promises, the Government offices, and many other important buildings ; also that when he set fire to tho buildings on the Show Ground ho was nearly suffoaated, throngh being oaught in a barbed-wire fenoe. Hobart, This Dat. The Giblin Memorial Hall at Dovonport, which cost .£lOOO to build, and contained a valuable library, has been completely destroyed by fire. The building was fully insured. Incendiarism is suspected.
