In the Legislative Assembly the Premier said that the Land and Income Tax Bills were submitted with the same exemption as they went to the oonntry on, but if the House saw fit to alj^er the limit, the Government wonld be quite agreeable. Mr. Lvne, Leader of the Opposition, Raid the policy of the Government was evidently judiciously tempered with an eye to majorities. A deputation from the Seamen's Union urged the Colonial Secretary to grant an extension of the franohiso to ooamen, and stated that under the present system 90 per oent. were debarred from voting. The adoption of the New Zealand system was advooated. The Minister strongly favoured giving rights to seamen as to others. The only difficulty was that of devising a soheme for the recording of the votes. He wonld consult his colleagues,- and was hopeful of remedying the injustice oomplainpd of.
