ST. THOMAS' CHURCH, NEWTOWN.

The workers in the southern portion of St. Mark's Anglioan parish have been very busy during the past few months in raising funds wherewith to build a place for their publio worship. The arrangements are now all completo, and the foundation-stone will be laid by His Exoellenoy the Governor on Wednesday afternoon. The 'building is being erected on the site of the Newtown Parochial Room, Riddiford-Btreet. When completed it will bold nearly 1000 people, but only a portion of it, sufficient to hold about 350, is to be erected at present. The architecture will be of the Oothio order, bt Thomas' Chnroh will not be within a separate parish, but will still be comprised in St. Mark's parish. The new church may fairly be regarded as a sign of the progress of Wellington, as well as an indication of the life and energy whioh have ohsraoterisod the Anglioan oommnnion since the arrival of Bishop Wallis. Too mnoh praise cannot be given to the Rev. O. FitzGerald, the originator of the movement, for his untiring zeal in pushing the matter to a sueoessf ul issue. Mr. FitzGerald has laboured indefatigably, and hia congregation owe him a dobt of gratitude. All tbe clergymen of tbe dionese have been invited to bo present at Wednesday's ceremony. The mnsioal portion of the service will be rendert d by a strong body of representatives from all the oity choirs. The buildipg arrangements aro in tho hands of a committee oonaisting of the Rev. Mr. FitzGerald and Messrs. Davis (Treasurer), Hoar, Callonder, Carter, Beck, Harltrop (Secretary), and Powell, the last-named also acting as honorary inspector of works. The architects are Messrs Clere, FitzGerald, and Kiohmond, and the builder is Mr. E. Gray. Any who wUh to contribute to tho building fund will have an opportunity of laying their donations on tbe stone.
