CANADA'S FLAG.

Canadians are very anxious to have a distinctive flag. At the present time the red ensign with the Canadian arms in the corner is popularly supposed to be the flag of the Dominion. It is stated, however, that there is no official sanction for the flag in question, which is sup-, posed to be the conception of a Scotch bunting maker. Several suggestions have been made, but the most reasonable one is that put forward by Mr. Sandford Fleming. He thinks that the red ensign with a large white star in the corner, the star to have as many points as there are provinces ' in the Dominion, springing from a common centre, would meet the case. It ia a symbol of unity, he urges, of which the Dominion is typical ; and, besides, it would be easily recognised all over the world as the northern star of America, the meteor flag of the Dominion.
