THE CHEMIS CASE. I DESIRE to express my sincere thanks to the Parliament of New Zealand for having passed an Act to enable my husband to apply to the Court of Appeal for a new trial, and I also desire to thank the individual members of eaoh House for the very great kindness they have shown*to me and mine in our great affliction. To Mr. C. H. Mills is due my warmest thanks for the untiring efforts he has made to obtain the paßßing of the measure. For tho last six years I have struggled against the influences of the authorities and tbe preßß, and now that my husband iB free to go to the Court of Appeal and to establish his innocence by a new trial, I find myself penniless and without the means to assist him in meeting the heavy expense which will be neqessarily inourred. Mr. Jelliooe has not only in the past given us his services gratuitously, but be has spent some hundreds of pounds out of his own pocket in endeavouring to obtain justice for my husband. lam therefore driven to appeal to the many kind friends and sympathisers for a little help towards meeting the costs of the application to the Court of Appeal and the new trial. I cannot in reason or fairness ask Mr. Jelliooe to undertake the further oonduot of the matter and to again disburse money out of his own pocket without being in some manner able to indemnify him against the expenditure. Subscriptions forwarded to me at 105, Tinakori-roud, will be gratefully received and duly acknowledged. ANNIE CHEMIS. [ No. 2 LOAN, WAINUIOMATA.
