AN OUT-OF-THE-WAY INSCRIPTION.

« * IPRBSS ASSOCIATION/I (Received August 14, 11 a.m.) Adelaide, This Dat. An interesting discovery has been made at Br&dahaw's Creek, in the Northern Territory. A baobab tree has besn found bearing the inscription " October 9," with the figures "15" or "75," and sigDed " Fred Adams, Southampton." Other characters, of which tho writing is indistinct, have also been discovered. It is thought the inscription mnst have been cut either in the year 1775 or 1815. As both dates belong to an earlier period than any recorded exploration of the Territory, it was probably made by one of a ship's orew in search of water. * At spring tides a veßßel of light draught could navigate the creek to the vicinity of the tree, whioh is 100 miles from the ooast. Or the words may have been out by a shipwreoked orew in searoh of food.
