THE MASTERTON MURDER CASE.
In the House of Representatives this ] afternoon Mr. W. Hutchison asked if the < attention of the Government had been ' directed to the verdict of the jury in Somer- * ville's case. There was a very general ' consensus of opinion that a mistake had ■ been made, and that there had been a serious miscarriage of justice. (General ' assent.) Government might, perhaps, make ' better definition of what degree of insanity ' should absolve a man from the consequences ' of his orime. * t The Premier said the matter was serious. ' It had not yet been brought to the attention £ of the Government otherwise than through the local press. In the absence of the Mm- ( ister for Justice he asked that notice of the I question be plaaed on the Order Paper. J
