Two hundred and fifty men and boys employed at the mines get only two days' work for a fortnight. There is much destitution, and owing to the geographical poaition of the plaoe there is no outlet for impeonnious men ; nor is there work in the Grey Valley, where every avenue is full. The Mayor ia in communication with the Premier and our representative, Mr. Guinness, nrging tbat the extension of tbe Midland Railway should be oommenoed from Jackson's.
