RETICENCE OF THE SURVIVING OFFICER. [I'Hiaa ASSOCIATION. | Sydney, 12th August The inquest on the victims of the Catter. thun disaster has begun at Foster. Mr. Langfear, second officer, m his evidence stated that he was in charge at the time of the vessel striking', the captain being in tho obart room. Witness saw the Seal Rooks light. He declined to give the course of steering. He did not see the green light, whioh wonld indioate danger. He refused to Bay whether he altered the oourße during his watch, or what position the Seal Rocks light bore at the time the Catterthun struck. (Received August 13, 11.15 a.m.) Stdnit, This Dat. The evidence at the inquest showed that the weather was very thick when the relief tug arrived on the scene. Another Chinaman's body has been recovered and buried at sea. A small quantity of wreokage iB ooming ashore, including some of the passengers' effects.
