I shall be glad of some more literary competitions before the end of the quarter. QUEEN CHARLOTTE SOUND. The fairest scene in this fair clime of ours Rich in romantic nooks, and fairy bowers Shaded' by graceful palms, fern-trees, and flowers — Of all New Zealand, is Queen Charlotte Sound; The glorious bush of native evergreen, The birch, the rimu with its glistening sheen, The starry olematis shining between Karaka's ngaihos — there raro ferns abound. Tho bays aro miniature sounds that kiss each hill, The waves, now ruffled, now in peace are still, Murmuring love's fables to ench stream and rill That gurgle down the valleys to the tide; Sweet nothings whiiper they in listening curs, The same sweet nothings that for many years Fond lovers whispered low with hopes and fears In shell-like eara to every beauteous bride. A silvery brightness sparkles on the sea, The lover waves have kissed, and now are free, The rata blossom glowing from the tree Contrasting strongly, brightest red and green; The sun beams down from skies of azure blue, Reflecting hills add charms to every view, And mists arise of tinted purplish hue, To add enchantment to the glorious scene. — " Miss Q."
