The German gunboat Itlis (489 tons, four Runs) bombarded and silenced the Chinese fort at Hobo becauso the authorities prevented the departure of a Bteamer carrying Tang Chiug, President of the Formosa Republic The steamer afterwards proceeded on her way to the town of Taipehfn, in Formosa, whore a powder magazine was set fire to and exploded, killing 90 persons
