' The Returning Ofiioer foi tho electoral ' distriot of Kaat Adelaide has received about . 2000 claims from women ola^minfr to vote | for the House of Assembly, and about 300 applioationß for enrolments as voters for the Legislative Council. The Assembly roll for East Adelaide at present contains 3300 male voters. The Heturning Officer for the province praises the police and postal offioials for the great assistance they are affording the publio, and ha is conSdent that they are oreditablypeifo-triing the extra duties imposed upon them. When questioned oonoerning the interpretation of the Adult Suffrage Aot, Mr. Boothby said there oan be no donbt that a olaim to vote for the Upper House made by a woman with her husband or brother as joint ocoupier of a houBS, the clear annual rental value of whiohis J2sO— double the amount required to qualify one person to vote — would be void unless she is jointly liable for tbe rent. This is a very important point, beoause it settles a doubt whioh has arisen in the minds of many people.
